3d Modeling & Animation
Ever since I saw Toy Story in 1995, I've wanted to work in 3D animated films. The Digital Arts minor at UNCW was my opportunity to explore.
In the course of three classes, I picked up Maya and made the following videos and renders.
What I've learned about 3D art is that it's very tedious and often time consuming. If I ever have another opportunity to invest the time, I would love to team up with others in this field in the future, and make another short film like Pungo Luna.
Luxo Jr.
I didn't make him up, but I did model and animate this recreation of PIXAR's Luxo Jr.
The project was to model an object or character of our choosing. Luxo was a suggestion of my professor. As a final project for the course, and with some help from Dr. Eric Patterson with the rigging, I made this short animation as a tribute to one of Pixar's first short films, and to the little lamp that hops on the 'I' in their logo before each film.
Bag End
For an environment creation project focused on modeling, shading, lighting and rendering, I made this 3D replica of "Bag End" from The Lord of the Rings.
I modeled and shaded both the structure interior itself, as well as the bottles, glasses, books, maps, furniture, and the staff behind the door. I did multiple lighting setups. I was going for a morning look with a subtle mixture of hard and soft light.
Nehemiah
I created this original character for a course in 3D animation which focused on modeling for animation, rigging, and animation.
I wanted to create a cartoon T-Rex, but didn't want him to be fierce and realistic, but rather like a stuffed animal come to life. So I gave him forward-bending knees and elephant feet, kept the classic T-Rex tiny arms, and only two teeth that look more like marshmallows than incisors. The tweed cloth finishes off the look, and makes him look cuddly.
Pungo Luna (2009)
A space-trucker named Lenny has a mid-space collision with a tiny alien named Dzinok. They crash land on a nearby moon...
A final project for a 3D Animation course was to create a short film from pre-production to post-production. We made Pungo Luna in two months with a team of around 15 students contributing.
