Although I was not involved in the development process, after designing their logo, I designed the website for SureYellow that will soon be available to the world to help individuals find great service professionals and products near their homes. This project involved designing several interfaces that will display blog/news posts and dynamic search results with multiple view and sort options to allow users to find exactly who or what they are looking for quickly.

SureYellow is an up-and-coming local listings web site which focuses on generating traffic for local businesses and providing actual user reviews to users in order to reward local businesses who work hard to please their customers and encourage those who don't. The graphic is meant to convey a local, "towney" feel while the Chaparral Pro type keeps it professional and clean. This was the first logo I've done by concepting with a sketch in a while.

    Logo - LeadsNearby

I had the opportunity recently to develop this logo for a local Internet Marketing firm called LeadsNearby. They had an idea for a logo and worked with me to make their concept a reality. We had decided to stick with sans-serif typefaces, and Myriad Pro Condensed (and Condensed Bold) was my first thought, and that's where we landed. LeadsNearby is a company dedicated to providing local lead generation to their clients, so we wanted to communicate through the logo the idea that LeadsNearby can drive local business to your doorstep.

Graphic Design

I've always been a bit of an artist. I was the guy who could never commiserate with everyone else when we played Pictionary growing up. But I was also always the guy who didn't quite finish in time. Good design and quality artwork means a sizeable investment of time and energy. I've put in thousands of hours over the years to develop my design abilities to where they are today, and still have much to learn from those who are still more creative and more experienced than I.

But that, too, is part of the joy of being an artist. We never arrive. There's always room to grow and stretch and rethink and reshape our methodology, habits and starting point.

I studied a minor in Digital Art at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where I graduated in 2009. It was there that I really grasped that knowing the Adobe Creative Suite is not what makes you a good designer, but communicating well with your design, requiring every part of a piece be meaningful. I employ that principle every time I open a new document in Photoshop and Illustrator.
